Perhaps you have an hour to spare before you board the ferry to Gotland. Drop by the smokehouse at Rökeriet/Kökeriet, buy an ice cream at one of the harbour-side sheds and sit down on the waterfront steps. If your children need to burn some energy before the boat trip, try the playground with the child-friendly ship Hoppetossan, on Frejas holme. Get some good deals in the shops in the city centre or by the harbour. Or just stop in at the Tourist Information Centre in the Guest Harbour, for tips on what Nynäshamn has to offer for an hour or two.
If you have a few hours to spare in Nynäshamn, you have time to see some of the most beautiful parts of the Stockholm Archipelago. Rent a bike at the Tourist Information Office and ride around the scenic Strandvägen/Ringvägen route. Get a coffee at Lövhagens or ride to Nicksta, Nynäshamn's own Copacabana. Go shopping in Nynäshamn's town centre or visit Godsmagasinet where you can view and purchase art and handicrafts. If you have a car you can drive out to Torö Stenstrand. If the surf is up you can probably see some top-ranking Swedish surfers in the water. Those interested in the Viking era will enjoy a drive out the Runstensvägen, or Runestone Route.
Take the Waxholm boat to Landsort or Nåttarö. A visit to either of these two spectacular islands will convince you that nothing can surpass the outer archipelago in terms of nature. Try your luck at fishing with Fiskeguiderna on an archipelago excursion. Escape to the spa at Nynäs havsbad on Trehörningen island. Take a full-day boat trip to Trosa and back on the M/F Flora. Sample the award-winning beer at the highly regarded Nynäshamns Ångbryggeri (steam brewery).
Rent a kayak, pack your tent behind the cockpit, stock up on smoked delicacies and locally brewed beer. Then all you have to do is head out into the archipelago. Stay closer to the mainland if the weather looks unstable. Or venture further out if there is a high pressure zone. In Nynäshamn you can find protected coves as well as exposed islands. All just a few paddle strokes away.
...the rest of your life
Perhaps you have already decided to spend a lot of time in Nynäshamn. Rarely has Nynäshamn seen such a boom in housing construction. Contact the Tourist office for more information.
