Hidden down in the rock, a four-story facility (battery) opens up. It was made for protecting Sweden during the Cold War. Come down and see how the Swedish engineering has created an atomic bomb safe place for a crew of 25 men. So welcome into the past, so secret mountain!
Battery Landsort is one of the six ERSTA-batteries, which were some of the most important defence systems during the Cold War. It would protect inlets to Södertälje, Nynäshamn and Stockholm. The battery was constructed to withstand both nuclear bombs and chemical weapons. Until the beginning of the 2000s, it was part of one of the world´s most high-tech and secret defence systems.
Now the public is welcome to visit the four-story facility during guided tours.
Landsort is the Stockholm archipelago´s southernmost outpost and houses since the 1600s Sweden´s oldest lighthouse. Landsort is well worth a visit for itself, and you can rent cabins, stay in a hostel or Bed and Breakfast all year round. There are dining options (but mostly during the summer). For more information about Landsort, please visit their website (Nb! Swedish only) www.landsort.com
