The nature reserve Österby is located in the northeastern part of Nynäshamn, about 10 kilometers southwest of Västerhaninge, south of the old road between Stockholm and Sorunda, just north of Transjön.
Österby covers about 132 hectares of mainly coniferous forest. However, there are hints of old aspen, deciduous trees such as elm, oak, linden and maple, and moist deciduous woods with alder and birch. This makes Österby suitable as destination for those who like to explore a variety of forest types and tree species in a limited area. Among the bushes you can find hazel, rose hip, juniper, the try, guelder-rose and alpine currant.
So come and explore Österby which maps from 1733 show that what is now the forest was the forest, even then.
Keep in mind that this is a sanctuary without benches, tables, outdoor grills, trash cans and outdoor toilets.
Suitable map is the terrain map 606 Southern Stockholm.
