Tafones are memories of the ice ages in Sweden.
You often find tafones close to where flooding water has been squeezed together. The tafones have been formed through the grinding effect of rotating rocks in the whirling water. Many of the large tafones were formed during the ice ages when large rocks which were stuck in the bottom of the glacier were "drilled" into the mountain as the glacier moved.
