At the same time it has become an exciting and verdant environment with a rich bird life, providing a new and attractive destination for nature-lovers.
The area is situated in a long valley, and is approx. 2 km long and approx. 500 m wide. There is a 6 km footpath around the whole area, but you can also choose shorter walks.
The facility comprises a number of shallow pools from which the water is gradually discharged into the Baltic via channels. Alongside the pools are a few marshy areas with reeds growing. Footpaths are set out on the banks alongside the pools and marshy areas.
There are good observation points, including the bird tower at Starrträsk and from other footpaths. Maps of the various footpaths are available at the car park.
How to get here by car:
Take the suburban train to Nynäshamn, alight at Nynäs Gård station. From here it is approx. 2 km. From Villagatan - follow the footpath across the field and either turn right, which will bring you to the southern end of the wetland area after approx. 200 m, or turn left and follow the signs to Kalvö-Alhagen.
Drivers should turn off Nynäsvägen (road 73) immediately before the approach to the built-up area of Nynäshamn, at the sign for "Kalvö, Hammarhagen". Then follow the signs to Alhagens våtmark. There are parking places at Kalvö stables.
